English

This part of begrepen.be is dedicated to the English language. As such, this part of the website is also written in English. English is the native language of about 360 million people, all around the world. On top of that, almost a billion people worldwide understand and speak it as a foreign language. Since the end of World War 2, English has become the ‘lingua franca’, the common language people all over the world use to communicate with others if they do not share a native language. In order to be a part of the global science community, or gaming community, or basically any international community, some knowledge of English will be absolutely necessary.

The English section consists of three main parts:

  • On the page ‘everyday English‘ you will find some short guidelines on how to do certain everyday things, such as reading the clock.
  • On the ‘tenses‘ page you can find all sorts of rules about how to form sentences, use tenses, etc. This is the formal part of learning English.
  • To find out more about the origins of English and about the countries where it is a native language, check out the ‘cultural background‘ page.
  • To practise your listening skills, visit the listening page.

Happy learning!
